I’d like to just begin by saying that Laura Maxon is the very best hair stylist in Tucson.  I’d like to next thank her SO SO much for referring this sweet family to me.

We decided to go downtown Tucson for their photos.  As always, it proved to be a super fun location…fitting for this super fun family!  Lara (the mom in the photos) shared with me that they have never had this “type” of photos done together as a family and that she was ready to have her family captured in a natural and relaxed way.  Mission accomplished.  Lara, your family is beautiful, and the session was amazing.  Thank you so much for trusting me with the task.

There is a common thread amongst all the families that come to me to have their photographs taken.  They’re fun, pretty much hilarious, not afraid of being a little silly…and they trust me.  They trust me to capture them together in a way that shows to the world what they already know in their hearts….that with this family…there is love.  There is laughter.  There is life.  Crazy, messy, beautiful life.

Thank you.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for having so much faith in me.

I’m sharing just a couple recent photos, but what you’ll really want to see is the slideshow posted here at the end!

Aimee and Paul…where to begin.  Honestly, I’ll just say that I could have photographed these two all day long.  No words I could choose would do any justice to how much fun and absolutely in love with each other they are.

Doing their engagement photos in downtown Tucson was perfect for them!  I’m sharing just a few pictures…but if you want to see more…and trust me, you do…be sure to check out the slideshow at the end!

As his mom, I can’t help but feel this is the first of many decisions that may have a profound effect on his life and the trajectory it takes.  If he starts this year…that means he will be 16 when he begins his senior year in high school.  Granted he will turn 17 the following month…but still.  Sixteen.

My worry may seem a bit over the top, but it’s not.  Really.  The program that his sister is in is the same that he’ll join.  First grade math.  They blow right by kindergarten math (well, with the exception of a few weeks at the beginning of school).  They have spelling, phonogram and math tests weekly, and at least 30 minutes of homework each night.

The fear doesn’t stem from a belief that he doesn’t have the aptitude.  I know he does.  I can give him a sentence and tell him to name the verb, and he does it correctly every time.  I can tell him he has 2 apples and ask him how many he will have if I give him 3 more…and he’ll tell me the right answer every time.  But he’s still…four.

I wish there was a handbook to reference which would give a surefire answer for times like these.  Unfortunately, no such handbook exists.  As parents, we all have our own manuals…and they are “create as you go.”  So…I’m hoping…that his dad and I get it right.  Because…this little guys believes with his whole heart that his mommy and daddy know what’s best for him.  Dear, God.  Don’t let us let him down.

More and more I’m seeing the families that come to me for photos tend to follow a certain trend.  They are fun and silly and full of life.  But most of all, they come to me trusting in me 100% to capture who they are…who they know they are in their hearts.  There is something so incredibly moving about seeing yourself with your family in a photograph and have it match the image you carry in your heart…in your soul.  I know this all too well now as I’ve recently had the rich experience of being on that end of things (more on that later).  As a person who is entrusted time and again with this job, I can honestly say that it’s moving for me as well.
